Saransk is the 300,000-populous capital of Mordovia, a small Russian republic in the Volga river region.
Some 40% of the republic’s poplation are Mordvins, a group of Moksha and Erzya ethnicities. They have unique languages that belong to the Uralian group that also includes Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian. The identity of the Mordvins is supported by folklore festivals.

New stadium Mordovia Arena will host 4 games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup’s group stage. It will have room for some 45,000 spectators. Saransk is available through 1h 45m-long flights from Moscow.
